Treatment Tips for Back Pain

Many people experience back heel pain where there is swelling and a sore heel on one or both legs. When this happens, the back pain fott when walking, running, or standing. A person may see a lump behind the calcaneus, swelling and enlargement of the heel bone, and a soft area to touch. Pain is most likely caused by a common cause, which includes Haglund deformity ("pump bulge" or a bump on the heel bone), Achilles tendonitis (swelling of this tendon), Achilles Calcific Insertional Tendonitis (increased bone formation where Achilles attaches to the heel bone) and retrocalcaneal bursitis (fluid filled sac). In each of these foot conditions there may be swelling and inflammation with posterior heel pain. Some people walk with limps due to severe heel pain or find it difficult to take longer steps.

Steps to Relieve Heel Pain Back

If you are suffering from this problem, it is important to make every effort to treat it conservatively. In many cases, it is possible to avoid surgery, which has a long recovery time and risk of complications. Here are some suggestions to try:

Wear proper shoes: Tight shoes or high heels can cause severe heel pain, so avoid these shoes. Shoe pressures often make the pain worse and can even make it more difficult to stand or move. In contrast, light shoes with mild to moderate heel heels are a better choice. These shoes help reduce stress on the tendon. Also, avoid walking on bare feet and wearing flat soled shoes.

Use special orthotics: Some studies show that special orthotics help people with heel back pain. Custom orthotics are mounted on the feet and put in shoes for better adjustment and heel alignment. This device can reduce the tension or "twist" in the Achilles tendon.

Stretching and strengthening exercises: Calf muscles and Achilles tendon areas should be stretched regularly. There are also special types of strength training to try. Legologists can help determine whether strengthening the Achilles tendon may be beneficial.

Wearing boot runs: This device is for severe morning pain to help calm the area. It keeps the feet unable to move for a short time.

Anti-inflammatory drugs: If posterior foot pain is a problem, anti-inflammatory drugs can temporarily reduce swelling. Although this treatment does not cure the underlying problem and should be used in the short term, it will make the pain more tolerable. After that, a treatment plan can be developed with a podiatrist.

Lose weight: Losing weight can be the most effective treatment. This is because carrying extra weight causes the Achilles tendon to experience strength equivalent to many times the weight during everyday activities. If weight is the cause of posterior leg pain, make joint efforts to work with nutritionists, coaches or doctors to lose weight.
