6 Myths Related to Athlete's Foot

This is also called Tinea Pedis or ringworm infection that affects the skin of the foot. Mushrooms grow well in humid and warm conditions that make them well developed in poorly ventilated footwear. Although this is not a serious condition, like most medical conditions, there are some myths associated with athlete's foot.

Myth 1: Only athletes experience it.

People think that only athletes suffer from this condition, especially because of its name. But this is not true because anyone can have an infection. The reason this condition is called athlete's foot is simply because it is so prevalent in athletes.

This is because strict training sessions leave their feet in a warm and humid condition and prone to infection. Also because all athletes use the same shower floor, the infection quickly moves from one person to another.

Myth 2: Because the condition is not dangerous, no treatment is necessary.

Since this is a superficial infection where the skin is peeling off painlessly, many people do not even treat the condition. However, if left untreated, the condition may worsen, especially in areas of peeling skin.

Myth 3: You can stop treatment once symptoms disappear.

Victims of this disease tend to discontinue treatment once symptoms disappear. However it is advisable to complete the treatment program even after the symptoms disappear to prevent recurrence of the infection.

Myth 4: This disease can not be eliminated.

It is generally considered that athlete's foot can not be completely treated. But if you use the right medicine, the athlete's foot can be removed through the body system. Whether the treatment program should be short or long will depend on the severity of the infection.

Myth 5: You can get infected through physical contact.

It is not necessary that physical contact with an infected person always leads to the infection ring used. Reactions occur on the basis of the immune system; However it is always better to do proper foot care if you contract mushrooms.

Myth 6: You can get this just by wearing shoes.

This is not true because shoes with good ventilation do not create damp and warm conditions or cause this disease. Take preventive care using cotton socks, wash socks every day and dry your feet after washing or bathing.

Now all these myths have been clarified, just follow a strict and orderly hygiene regimen to prevent athlete's feet. However if you get an infection, it is better to consult a dermatologist for the right medicine to avoid complications.
