Causes and Treatment of Swelling of Feet

Our legs are hit every day, and we often ignore them until it's time to make sure they look good for flip flops or seasonal sandals when the weather gets better every spring. Your feet can tell you more about your health than you think, and if you have periods of swollen feet, you may be wondering what is going on and what you can do to make it stop. Our legs take us everywhere, and they can also make it so we can not move if there is a problem. Watch your feet because of swelling and other problems so they do not disappoint you.

One of the most common reasons for leg swelling is in your legs throughout the day. Many suggest that you buy shoes at a later date because your feet can swell up to half the size (sometimes more) during the day. If you buy your shoes early in the day, they may not fit at night, making your feet hurt when you wear them. The swelling is normal as long as you do not see too much difference from day to day. Raise your legs when you can and the swelling will go down all night while you rest. This leg swelling is normal, as long as it is normal for you.

You can also experience leg swelling during pregnancy. This is why so many women can not wear their normal shoes towards the end of their pregnancy. Swelling of the foot during pregnancy can begin immediately after the second trimester, so do not be surprised when it starts to happen to you. Again, lift your legs and give them a break as you can reduce this swelling. If your swelling looks severe, and up on your feet, you may want to see your doctor. Excess swelling of the feet and feet suggests complications with your pregnancy that may require immediate medical attention.

If you need an IV for any reason, leg swelling may occur. A slow IV that runs only once may not have much effect on your legs, but if you get IV antibiotics, for example, you could end up with a leg that you do not even recognize. This is normal, and your doctor or nurse should warn you that this is possible. The liquid has no place to go, but your body will work overnight or in a few days. If this does not happen, consult your doctor about what you should do about the problem of your leg swelling.

When your feet swell out of nowhere for no reason you can see, you must be seen by a doctor. For some reason your body does not secrete the fluid as it should, which may be a simple problem or it could be something more serious. If your swollen feet are not typical for you, and they do not go down in a few hours, try putting them down when you call your doctor's office. Hopefully that is a strange occurrence, but you must make sure that you have checked it. Swelling of the feet is usually unnecessary to worry about, but it may signal a larger problem.
